The challenge is just right for tweens and teens, but the story is lacking a bit which wouldn't be hard to fix, but kind of leaves it a bit lackluster right now. The plot point you start with is very non-specific about why you're trying to get into the chest so when you do open it, the result is kind of blah. There was no indication we were lost, so it feels like we got a basic stock photo and a "congrats you were fine all the time" kind of ending instead of something more satisfying. I'll likely write a different ending if I choose to use this with my class again.
The pictures were great and the clues were thought provoking, but not too hard. I used them like a scavenger hunt for a small group of 11 year old girls, they knew two pages went together to be able to solve the clue. I hid them around the house with my own clues to find the next picture. It took them over an hour with them hidden on three floors and outside. I had a treasure chest of goody bag items, all mermaid/sea themed at the end. They loved it!
